Kashtan (Каштан)
About This Spot
Stepping into Kashtan (Каштан) in West Hollywood is like walking into a treasured corner of home nestled far from Russia’s sprawling landscapes. The modest, unpretentious entrance gives way to an intimate space where warmth and familiarity hum quietly in the background. This isn’t a spot meant for flashy presentations or hurried meals — instead, it invites you to settle into a gentle rhythm, one defined by heartfelt hospitality and a genuine love for the craft of Russian cooking.
The atmosphere here is unassuming but richly textured, echoing the modest essence of family traditions passed down through generations. It’s clear that Kashtan is a gathering place not just for locals craving authentic flavors, but also for friends and families who cherish meaningful moments around the table. Conversations flow easily, often accompanied by the comforting scents of home-style dishes that balance nostalgia with the occasional unexpected note — a carefully curated smörgåsbord, a beautifully plated cold borscht, or delicate hunks of beluga caviar that elevate simple ingredients into quiet celebrations of taste.
Behind the scenes, the rhythms of this family-run establishment shape every experience, from attentive service that feels personal rather than procedural, to thoughtfully prepared spreads that honor both heritage and the joy of sharing food. Whether you’re drawn in by seasonal specialties, or looking for a cozy spot to savor dishes like buckwheat with mushrooms or potato pancakes, each visit is marked by a subtle yet palpable sense of care woven into all that Kashtan offers.
More than just a restaurant, Kashtan feels like an invitation to slow down and connect — with friends old and new, with traditions that root you, and with moments that linger quietly long after the last bite.

Kashtan Store and its owners are truly exceptional. This is a family-owned business that clearly puts their heart and soul into everything they do, from the outstanding quality of their products to the warm, attentive customer service they provide. You can genuinely feel the pride and care behind this store the moment you walk in. Their caviar is simply the best—both in quality and price. We have tried caviar from many places, and nothing even comes close. The freshness, flavor, and consistency are unmatched, and the prices are more than fair for such premium products. It’s truly unbeatable. We willingly drive over an hour just to shop here because we know we’re getting the best red and black caviar in the city, every single time. Kashtan Store has become our go-to place, and we wouldn’t trust anyone else for caviar. Thank you so much to the wonderful Kashtan Family for your dedication, passion, and excellence. We are grateful to have such a gem in our community and will continue to be loyal customers for years to come!

I was so lucky to have this restaurant cater my wedding. Everything from the food, to the staff, to the planning was excellent. Every meeting we had with the owner, Arkady, made me feel like I was being taken care of and was very assuring. They came to our separate venue and handled everything - the cooking, the management of all staff (including the venue staff), and ensured that the timing of everything was up to the standards of our wedding planner. I couldn’t be happier with choosing them to cater our wedding. The biggest anxiety I had about food was whether the American side (my husbands) was going to understand the food /cuisine. However, during the wedding everyone RAVED about the food and majority of all courses were eaten up. I myself got to enjoy the leftovers the day after the wedding and can honestly say it’s some of the best Russian food I’ve had. Thank you so much to this incredible family for helping make our wedding so special and personal for our families.

Love this place, both the cozy banquet hall and the deli next door. I had a birthday party here for 10 folks and they accommodated us on a holiday evening and for a reasonable-per person price. The long table was set (overflowing, really) with tasty appetizers we we got there. There was another larger, Russian group celebrating something as well, and our tables ended up dancing together by the end of the evening even though we didn't understand each other. Other reviews that claim this place only caters to Russians seem off base, at least in my experience. We've been greeted with a great deal of warmth every time we go in, whether to make reservations for an event, to pick up some tasty bits from the deli counter, or just to buy Sevruga by the pound (awesome prices on caviar here!)

The best Russian home cooking in town. My family has been a loyal customer for decades. Wonderful owners that make sure the food and service are always on- point. Thank you for hosting our Christmas lunch today.
